Welcome to AMEC YPD - Ninth District

Sister Ida Hyche
Welcome to the website of the “Notable, Anointed” Ninth Episcopal District Young People’s & Children’s Division of the Women’s Missionary Society where the Right Reverend T. Larry Kirkland is presiding prelate, Mrs. Mary Kirkland is Episcopal WMS Supervisor, Mrs. Hattie Nathan is Episcopal WMS President, Mr. Christopher Reeves is Episcopal YPD President and Miss Phillippia Eggleston is Episcopal YPD Webmaster! I greet you in the Joy of Jesus described in Philippians! The joy and peace of God that passes all understanding keeps my mind and heart stayed on Christ! If I leave nothing else with you the Episcopal leaders, conference YPD directors and YPDers during my leadership, I pray I leave this message: It’s not about me! It’s not about you! It’s all about Christ! It’s about Christ and building Christ-like relationships!

What better person to focus on as we talk about generational leaders building relationships, than Christ? Jesus Christ is the greatest leader in history! Our forefathers based their every move on Jesus Christ and His principles. Their prayer meetings were leadership and guidance seeking sessions to attune them with Christ and seek His guidance through prayer. When we talk about leadership and relationships, we count it joy that we can look to Christ as the epitome of good leadership and relationship principles. Leaders have special relationships with their followers and special responsibilities to them. The life of Jesus and His involvement with followers demonstrate the intensity to which leader and follower relationship can grow. It does not replace family relationships, but it can become just as strong.

We want our young people and children to understand that quality leadership produces unity and a wise leader seeks to build unity. Unified teams produce the most treasured memories and enduring relationships. Can you think of some unified teams you’ve been blessed to be a part? Successful coaches often get rid of very talented players who cause disunity. The remaining players, though less talented, are often more successful. Unity, sons and daughters of African Methodism, means so much. There is truly no substitute for it and it rarely just happens! A good youth leader will do all he or she can to build unity. When Jesus said that a house divided against itself cannot stand, He was telling us that unity is essential.

If you are elected or appointed to serve the Ninth Episcopal District YPD as a leaders, or serve as leaders in your local, area or conference YPD, accept your job with a strong sense of commitment to service. Choose to become more missions service-oriented in the communities and your churches. Pick a volunteer service agency where you can “reach out and touch” someone by reading a book, cleaning a house, making a bed, cutting grass, assisting the handicapped youth in sports, hugging or holding a sick baby, reading to young child, touching an HIV patient to dispel ostracism, running errands for a senior citizen and being honest to him or her. The list could go on and on. Meetings are good for business – but, we need YOU to help us remember to “take our business to the streets!” We want you to start documenting your volunteer service hours because you can use them in writing essays and applying for college scholarships. A record of your volunteer service hours will remain in the Episcopal YPD records for certification when you need such. Every day, I challenge you to represent the Christ in You! You are young persons in Christ, born to win! I am honored to serve you!
